Reflection #2

Ever since I have learned about the SQR technique in my Language Arts and Reading classes I have been trying to use it. This week I used this technique during my English class by reading the article “Marry Him.” We had to actively read the article which included highlighting key ideas, and underlining important statements. Also we had to circle unknown vocabulary words, and summarize details. This method really helped me this week.  I received an A plus on my English test. This method has also helped me in my Reading class. When I read an excerpt from The Things They Carried, I feel more focused on the text. This method helps me memorize key information. This week I am probably going to use the SQR technique on my English homework because every time we read an article, the following class period we are tested on the information from the article. Also my English professor requires the class to actively read our homework assignments before they are due. I think it is beneficial that I have to actively read in both my English and Reading classes. By summarizing the details it makes it easier to review for tests. I feel that the more I expand my knowledge on active reading, or SQR, educational reading will become easier to understand. The only downside about active reading is that it is currently more time consuming, but the more I practice, the more natural it will become in my lifestyle.  I am enjoying the knowledge I am gaining from this class. :)

My Reflection

When it comes to stories that have touched my life in some way my pen falls short. I think of all the small little moments that have shaped my life thus, far and I can't just think of one. So today I'm going to write about someone else's life story that I've heard recently that made  me appreciate my life little more. Everyone thinks they got it bad until they hear someone else’s story. Sometimes we don’t get to choose when we hear someone’s story. It was just normal day at Fullerton College .I had hour before my next class and wanted to grab something to eat. I was crossing the street from subway when this girl approached me. She had dark brown curly hair and was wearing a black shirt. She looked a little worn out but, overall just average student. She asked if I had a quarter. I told her I didn’t .I then asked if she needed it for parking pass and she said no. She just wanted something to eat.

That when she began telling me her life story. She told me she was living in her sister's car and can’t go back home cause her parents are abusive. To be honest there was nothing I could do and she didn’t want to get anyone involved. She seemed pretty nice and I shared little about my life too. As I was about to leave I told her to take care of herself and be careful. This moment just made me appreciate my life more. I know my life can be tough at times but , I'm lucky I have home to go back to, food to eat , and I'm safe.

The Things That I Carry..

I carry the spirit of a bird, the slowness of a turtle, and the clumsiness of tight rope walker! I have carried many dark clouds but, have treasured many stars. I have carried the bad side of coin and have lost someone very dear. I carry the reality she's not here and she will never be. I carry the lost of mother's touch. I carry strength to keep going, spiritualism to keep believing, and dreams to keep achieving. I  carry a  guardian angel in the sky.
I carry the emotions of the weather. I carry the peace of rain falling, the change of leaves, and the zap of thunder and coldness of snow. I carry dreams the size of the world an imagination that could color the rainbow and I can be as stubborn as rock. I carry the ability to forgive but, not forget.

I carry the missing puzzle piece to my life. I carry the answers to my mystery! I carry the ability to read people well. I carry secrets.

I carry the memory of contestant on jeopardy but, the forgetfulness of 70 year old .I carry strong opinions and weird theories. I carry unfinished projects and great ideas.  I carry good times, rough times, and just ok times. I carry lifelong friendships and importance of family and never losing touch .I carry photographs and happy memories. I carry my cell phone and picture id all the time .I carry my iPod most of time. I carry the love of music. I carry myself and as times goes on I learn to carry less and just move on.
